How many times have you been to a funeral and heard someone say “How he would have enjoyed being here” or maybe you have been told “I never thanked her or told her how much I loved her”.
When someone is facing their mortality through illness or simply old age imagine how wonderful it would be for them to have a party with all their family and friends around them, sharing their experiences and reminiscences, with everyone given the opportunity to say thanks and tell them how much they are loved, much like a joyful Irish Wake, but with the Guest of Honour there to enjoy it too. Elderly or terminally ill people can often feel isolated and alone and the simple gesture of arranging a party in their honour can make a huge difference to how they feel for the time they have left. This is where a Living Wake, also known as a Living Funeral or Living Farewell, can play a part in easing the lot of a patient and his family and friends.
The messages exchanged on this occasion will be a priceless gift for the Guest of Honour, to be cherished for the remaining time they have left. The knowledge that he or she has made a mark upon this earth can make the thought of an all-too-imminent departure more acceptable. A Living Wake helps people come to terms with what is to come in a joyful way. |
